What Does the Role Involve?

The Food Services Assistant role at Mercy Aged Care is designed for individuals who enjoy preparing and serving meals to others while maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety. Your duties will include assisting in the preparation of meals, serving food to residents, and ensuring that all dietary restrictions and preferences are carefully adhered to.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in food preparation and meal serving to residents, ensuring their preferences and nutritional needs are met.
  • Adhere to food safety regulations and ensure cleanliness in kitchen and dining areas.
  • Support residents during meal times, offering assistance to those who require help with eating.
  • Record residents’ food and fluid intake and report any concerns to the nursing staff.
  • Ensure all dietary restrictions (e.g., gluten-free, low-sodium) are carefully observed when preparing meals.

You will also help create a positive dining experience for the residents, which is an important aspect of their daily lives. It’s not just about serving food; it’s about offering care, compassion, and comfort in each meal.

What You’ll Bring

To succeed in this role, you will need to demonstrate a passion for caring and have experience in food service, preferably in an aged care or healthcare setting. You should be able to work flexibly and have a team-oriented attitude, as well as possess excellent communication skills to engage with residents and colleagues effectively.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • A valid food safety handling certificate.
  • Experience in a food services role, particularly in aged care or healthcare, is desirable.
  • Ability to accommodate common dietary restrictions (e.g., gluten-free, diabetic, low-sodium) while preparing meals.
  • A compassionate and flexible approach to patient care and management.
  • A current right to work in Australia.
  • NDIS clearance or willingness to obtain it.
